I've been doing Taekwon-Do for two years and my confidence has increased enormously. Classes prepare you both mentally and physically to take care of yourself, so walking alone at night feels much safer. But it's not just about self-defence. I was quite fit before, but Taekwon-Do has really improved my stamina and strength.. |
DISTANCE LEARNING
You’re never too old or too far away for TaeKwon-Do.
Two years ago I had to start working near Reading. I live in Cornwall so that meant an early start on Mondays and a late finish on Thursdays. (Fridays are part of the weekend in the SW). Long bleak hours in a car followed by longer and bleaker hours at a desk. I needed some way of trying to keep fit. Martial Arts was the answer.
I hunted around, tried a couple of things, then hit the jackpot with TVT. A seriously strong club with dozens of razor sharp senior grades and highly motivated instructors. Techniques are performed to a standard that has to be seen to be believed – and I still don’t.
I’ve found the ITF journey is long and hard but rewarding. I struggled through the first few sessions and staggered out as a decrepit wreck. But after two years training that’s all changed –I’m still a decrepit wreck but at a much higher standard.Without a doubt TVT gives me a sense of purpose and (very modest) achievement that definitely puts 10,000V through each working week. I’ve never experienced a martial art that has such a deep theoretical basis as well as practical application.

I started Taekwon-Do in 2000. I broke up with girlfriend (on Valentine's Day!)
and sought some form of other entertainment to take my mind off things and plough my energies into.
I was lucky enough to witness a great display of flying kicks, brick breaking and fantastic feats of skill from Master Whiteley accompanied by Mr Pilkinton. I was so amazed
I began training that instant. Since then, I worked extremely hard to gain a black belt, learning everything I could and was supported greatly by the senior grades. I was encouraged to compete in the British Championships and gained Gold for Patterns and silver for sparring. However, my real love lies in exploring the realistic approaches the applications of patterns, sparring and special techniques. I would thoroughly recommend Thames Valley Taekwon-Do to complete beginners as we are a great family of instructors and students who help you persue every goal.
