All Juniors are welcome to participate in the ITF Taekwon-Do Juniors program. Our students are looked at as individuals, each with their own goals and desires that may be different than other students. All that we require is a willingness to try and a heart to learn. From your adult Taekwon-Do training, you can expect the following benefits:
FITNESS - The principles of Taekwon-Do techniques are based on the design of your body. For power you develop the larger, powerful muscles of the torso. The speed of the techniques comes from the fast, agile muscles of the arms and legs. As you progress in Taekwon-Do you will learn to coordinate this speed and power, and develop a concentration to focus all of your body's strength into a small, hard striking surface like the edge of the hand or the heel of the foot.
SELF-DEFENCE - When the speed and power developed through Taekwon-Do is used in a self-defence situation against soft vulnerable parts of an attacker's body, the result can be incredible. Martial Arts allows a females to emphasise many of her natural physical strengths, such as power in the legs, while learning a method of self-defence efficient against a much larger opponent. Knowing you can defend yourself, your confidence will grow. And confidence alone is usually enough to deter potential attackers.
SELF CONFIDENCE - This does not come naturally for many people, but self-confidence can be developed over a period of time. Through Taekwon-Do, as you accomplish new goals, your confidence level increases. Taekwon-Do installs a sense of discipline and self-confidence that can carry over to all aspects of your life.
The Taekwon-Do for Adults program is intended for all adults of any age. Thames Valley Taekwon-Do offers a program for everyone's need from Basic (beginner) to experienced, for individuals or the family.
GRADING & COMPETITIONS...
Students rank is indicated by the colour of their belt. Grading tests are held within your chosen Academy usually every 6 to 8 weeks for students who are ready to promote to a higher belt. Many of our students achieve black belt status after only 3 - 4 years of training.
For students who wish to compete, there are local, national and international championships held regularly throughout the year. Students may compete once they have reached Yellow Belt Status, which can be achieved after 4 months of regular training.
Competitions consist of 4 disciplines: Sparring (not Full-Contact), Patterns, and Breaking (Power Test) and Special Technique. All events are divided into Age, Weight and Grade categories, juniors also get height tested.
